Cubic Yards = Volume ÷ 27
All linear dimensions are in feet; thickness is entered in inches and converted to feet by dividing by 12. There are 27 cubic feet in one cubic yard.
Volume (ft³) = π × (Radius in ft)² × Height × Number of Columns
Radius (ft) = (Diameter in inches) ÷ 2 ÷ 12
Each step is modeled as a solid triangular prism. The cumulative volume accounts for the solid mass below each tread:
Volume per step = 0.5 × Rise (ft) × Run (ft) × Width (ft) × Step Number
Total = Sum of all step volumes × 2 (solid fill factor)
This approximates the total concrete in a staircase including the solid base platform.
Always order more than the net calculation. A 10% overage covers spillage, uneven subgrade, pump losses, and rounding up to the nearest quarter-yard on ready-mix orders.
