The tool uses approximate spot prices (in USD per troy ounce) for each metal. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams. The purity percentage for each karat is applied: 24K = 99.9%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 58.3%, 10K = 41.7%. Platinum and palladium use their own spot prices with standard alloy purities.

Each gemstone type has an approximate retail price per carat, based on average quality (SI clarity, good cut for diamonds; medium color saturation for colored stones). Rare stones like rubies and emeralds command higher premiums. The total gemstone value is the price-per-carat multiplied by total carat weight.
Gem Value = Carat Weight x Avg Price per Carat
The combined metal and gemstone value is multiplied by a condition factor: Excellent (100%), Good (85%), Fair (65%), Poor (40%). This reflects how condition affects resale and appraisal value in the real market.
